Stëv Skye (born Stephen Tyszka; December 6, 1974) is an American multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, music producer, and vocal/music instructor.
Stëv was born into a family of musical virtuosos; the most famous is Adriana Caselotti, known as ‘The Voice of Snow White’. Stëv took an interest in music at the age of 4. By 12, he could play anything he heard by ear. At 16, he was singing, performing, recording, composing, and producing music.
Shortly after his 19th birthday, Stëv was introduced to legendary music producer Eddie Kramer (Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones). Upon hearing Stëv’s original music, Eddie encouraged him to hone his songwriting and musicianship, and to pursue music professionally. In 1996, Stëv moved to Hollywood, California where he built a state-of-the-art recording studio. By day, Stëv was a music and vocal instructor; by night, he was a performer.
An entertainer at heart, Stëv was invited to perform with several celebrities and to write and produce with Grammy Award winning artists. In 1997, Stëv was asked to play lead guitar on a remake of Gladys Knight’s “If I Were Your Woman”. Stëv gained the attention of renowned Motown songwriter and producer Norman Whitfield (I Heard it Through the Grapevine, Just My Imagination, Car Wash), who said of Stëv, “I can’t imagine anyone playing guitar better than that.”
Stëv also composed original scores for 7 films and is a 2-Time Nominee for Best Music Soundtrack in 1997 and 1998, consecutively. As of today, he has taught nearly 300 music/vocal students, produced and/or mastered over 400 recordings, and written over 500 songs.
Enjoying the musical arts but disliking the ‘cut throat’ lifestyle of the Los Angeles music scene, Stëv left Hollywood to pursue a more simple life of spiritual living and creative musicianship. In 2001, he relocated to Arizona and opened Skye Music Studios.
In 2008, Stëv met music industry veteran Robert Rozich (Michael Jackson, Bruce Springsteen, Heart). After hearing Stëv’s extensive catalog of unreleased material, Robert’s record label, EPS Records, stepped in and provided him with state-of-the-art recording gear now known as EPS Skye Studios.
In 2009, Stëv became a semi-finalist in the national guitar playing competition, King of the Blues, where he beat out 6500 contestants and was finally defeated by the winner himself.
Stëv has found joy by balancing his family life, spiritual growth, and creative pursuits. He is now working in the artist development, songwriting, production, and film/TV score side of the industry. Additionally, he has a handful of promising new students and a few up-and-coming artists he is developing.
During 2011, Stëv served as Executive Vice President and Program Coordinator for Chela Gala, a non-profit charity fundraising music organization based in Southern California. Chela Gala organizes one and two-day concerts to raise money for scholarship grants which support summer youth camps.
In addition to his award-winning guitar skills, Stëv is proficient in bass, piano, drums, vocals, and a variety of other instruments. He is known as a jack-of-all-trades within the studio; as an accomplished musical director, project manager, producer, arranger, audio engineer, mix engineer, mastering engineer, and renowned vocal instructor, Stëv carries his passion into every aspect of making great music.
